{"id":276,"date":"2017-05-07T09:20:18","date_gmt":"2017-05-07T13:20:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/?p=276"},"modified":"2018-02-02T14:53:54","modified_gmt":"2018-02-02T19:53:54","slug":"learning-to-tele-port-first-lessons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/learning-to-tele-port-first-lessons\/","title":{"rendered":"Learning to (Tele-) Port: First Lessons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>The Pathway To Lessons<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_279\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-279\" style=\"width: 587px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-279 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/folding-space-1.jpg\" alt=\"Folding Space\" width=\"587\" height=\"441\" srcset=\"https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/folding-space-1.jpg 259w, https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/folding-space-1-150x112.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 587px) 100vw, 587px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-279\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Space and Time Can Be Folded &#8211; Like Any Other Fabric<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>There are times in life \u2013 they seem to cluster, for reasons only the bosons know \u2013 that we\u2019re called upon to do things, and learn things, that are totally outside our ken\u2026. remote from the wildest, most creative imaginings we might have had ever.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-282\" src=\"https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/immortality-1.jpg\" alt=\"immortality\" width=\"1500\" height=\"1170\" srcset=\"https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/immortality-1.jpg 1500w, https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/immortality-1-150x117.jpg 150w, https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/immortality-1-300x234.jpg 300w, https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/immortality-1-768x599.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In my first year of college (a wet-behind-the-ears freshman, barely 16 years old and thinking myself marvelously mature) I read Sartre\u2019s \u201cBeing and Nothingness\u201d \u2013 and had no idea at the outset how mind-blowing the ideas would be, and would become, both then, now of reading and considering, and then evermore over time.\u00a0 Sartre was, is (while dead, his work is vibrantly alive) a thinker of enormous depth, and frequent confusion (maybe I should say \u201cobfuscation,\u201d but it might be only my ignorant perceptions).\u00a0 I had the same experience \u2013 the experience of seeing into a deep, deep well, and knowing its earth-center bottom is imaginable, but not yet perceptible\u2026.. &#8211; reading Frances Bacon\u2019s \u201cNovum Organum,\u201d the first real encyclopedia and extraordinary collection of genuine and vast, brilliant scientific observations.\u00a0 Mozart\u2019s last symphony\u2026the great g-minor\u2026.had the same effect, along with the \u201cBenedictus\u201d from Beethoven\u2019s last work, the Missa Solemnis.\u00a0 In a way, these are all premonitions of death.\u00a0 They were, in fact, the opposite of what I would learn from Chico: the stuff that is at the very core nature of life, and life everlasting.\u00a0 True, relevant, believable premonitions of immortality.\u00a0 I\u2019m shivering just to tell you about it, because it\u2019s so important\u2026for all of us, for everyone.<\/p>\n<p>First of all, I never, ever expected that someone like Chico, Chico the Magic Dog, would be in my life. Of course, my Hennessy\u2026.truly the love of my life, and one of the finest and most honorable persons I have ever known\u2026ever\u2026.has been with me (it seems) since time out-of-mind \u2013 well, for about the last ten\u00a0 years.\u00a0 She is my best friend. Not only my very best friend, today, yesterday, and tomorrow, but the best friend I have ever had, ever known, and ever hoped to have.\u00a0 I have never known or heard of anyone, in any story, history or anecdote who was blessed with a more honorable, delightful and intriguing friend and companion. My only fear, my only true fear, is losing her.\u00a0 Because of Chico and his incredible love and compassion, that will not happen: I will never lose her.\u00a0 Yet this is a story for another time. \u00a0It may be the most exceptional story of this collection.<\/p>\n<p>Even more, Hennessy is a remarkable and soulful prayer companion and \u201centreating friend,\u201d someone who is so pure, so good and filled with muted brilliance that she has a direct link to God\u2026and when I am at my most desperate, when all the lights in my universe are dark, and hopelessness reigns supreme, I turn to Hennessy and God, and answers come\u2026out of nowhere.<\/p>\n<p>Then, along came Chico.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_274\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-274\" style=\"width: 1600px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-274\" src=\"https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/chico-driving-backwards-1.jpg\" alt=\"Chico Driving Backwards\" width=\"1600\" height=\"1200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/chico-driving-backwards-1.jpg 1600w, https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/chico-driving-backwards-1-150x113.jpg 150w, https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/chico-driving-backwards-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/chico-driving-backwards-1-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-274\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">With the Two of Us, We See Backwards &amp; Forwards Simultaneously<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Who would have thought (surely not me!) that I\u2019d be learning about measuring the present and the future through the dances of molecules? Who would dream about such a thing? Well, perhaps the genius of Albert Einstein, or Archimedes; maybe Jean-Evariste Galois, or Hamlet, who turns to his true friend Horatio and says, \u201cThere are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy, Horatio.\u201d\u00a0 Hamlet was on an unwilling and unpleasant mission of recognizance; for me \u2013 and us, because it was the same for Henny, Licker and Neeki \u2013 for all of us, it was an adventure of the highest magnitude\u2026.the adventure of a lifetime, of a thousand lifetimes.<\/p>\n<p>Chico came into our lives as an adorable, small, premature puppy: cute, frail and sweet-natured.\u00a0 Clearly, he loved being a puppy, and there were few moments (only the ones when he slept) that the tail wasn\u2019t waving, the nose wasn\u2019t sniffing, the interminably expressive face wasn\u2019t finding yet another way to display good cheer, joy and indefatigable goodwill. No parent ever received more effusive or sweet-smelling kisses and lickings.\u00a0 He was not only a joy to be with\u2026he was an inspiration, the very personification of joie de vivre.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_37\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-37\" style=\"width: 237px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-37\" src=\"https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/chico-icon-1.jpg\" alt=\"Iconic Chico\" width=\"237\" height=\"286\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-37\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">&#8220;&#8230;except that ye be as little children, ye cannot enter the kingdom of heaven..<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3 class=\"mceTemp\">Little did I realize that these delightful, heart-breakingly lovely moments were only the very nascent beginnings of a life on a scale and scope beyond good and evil, continuously informed with the excitement of a new discovery. Chico\u2019s boyhood, as delightful and even exciting as it was, retrospectively, held only a dim candle to the upcoming astonishing awakenings of a grown-up Chico.<\/h3>\n<p>Every day was an adventure, mostly because Chico was (and remains!) irrepressibly adventurous.\u00a0 Like an agile rock-climber or spider-like mountaineer, Chico regards both exposure (to new things and greater details) and experience (new situations, circumstances and challenging environments) as pathways to ever greater delight\u2026. Delight in grasping new facts and crafting their connections; seeing behind and into reality and imagination with laser-vision.\u00a0 To be around Chico is to feel in your heart and stomach the joy of breath and learning, to become a kind of informational magnet that attracts new things, new ideas, new insights.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-296 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/bosch-garden_of_earthly_delights-1.jpg\" alt=\"Bosch - Garden_of_Earthly_Delights\" width=\"412\" height=\"448\" srcset=\"https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/bosch-garden_of_earthly_delights-1.jpg 220w, https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/bosch-garden_of_earthly_delights-1-138x150.jpg 138w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 412px) 100vw, 412px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t remember when I\u2019ve ever been unhappy in his presence.\u00a0 It has never occurred. Being around Chico is a joyous learning experience, every second.\u00a0 I have asked myself dozens of times why, exactly, why is it so wonderful, so filled with good cheer and positive feeling?\u00a0 And the reason, I think, I believe, I am certain, is this:<\/p>\n<p>We were designed by The Maker \u2013 and you can think of The Maker as God, or some beyond-intelligent force, or random evolution itself, or the power of time and space \u2013 we were and are designed to learn.\u00a0 I can honestly say that in my experience, it doesn\u2019t matter WHAT, exactly, we learn.\u00a0 Just\u2026.to learn.\u00a0 In a moment, I\u2019ll tell you what Chico taught me about learning, and the difference between information (no matter how complex and well-remembered) and learning. \u00a0And the wrong type of learning&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-302\" src=\"https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/tree-of-wisdom-aaron-j-groen-1.jpg\" alt=\"Tree-of-Wisdom-Aaron-J.-Groen\" width=\"2048\" height=\"982\" srcset=\"https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/tree-of-wisdom-aaron-j-groen-1.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/tree-of-wisdom-aaron-j-groen-1-150x72.jpg 150w, https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/tree-of-wisdom-aaron-j-groen-1-300x144.jpg 300w, https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/tree-of-wisdom-aaron-j-groen-1-768x368.jpg 768w, https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/tree-of-wisdom-aaron-j-groen-1-2000x959.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2048px) 100vw, 2048px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Of course, there is both a context, and a framework, that encourages and allows learning to happen (or allows you to allow learning to happen) and a precursor to that framework.\u00a0 I believe, I suspect, that this \u201cframework\u201d is curiosity itself.\u00a0 There is no creature that is not naturally curious. The simplest single-cell amoeba or paramecium is curious. They go running around, bumping into things, figuring out what they bumped into (or maybe just ignoring the figuring out part), and moving around again to exercise their curiosity.\u00a0 Do they learn?\u00a0 In fact, the answer is that even single-celled creatures can learn.\u00a0 We might call it something \u201clike\u201d learning \u2013 for example, habituation, or reactions based on multiple trials that result in a habit, or \u201cpathway\u201d of activity.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-306 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/paramecium-1.jpg\" alt=\"Paramecium\" width=\"528\" height=\"367\" srcset=\"https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/paramecium-1.jpg 269w, https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/paramecium-1-150x104.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 528px) 100vw, 528px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But there\u2019s no question that the smallest things on our planet are curious, and actually learn through their curiosity.\u00a0 Whether the learner is a single-celled creature like a protist, a paramecium, a complex insect like a bee, or a collection of trillions of cells that is us, we all want to learn, we all strive to learn.\u00a0 And each of our cells, in their own individual and unique way, is also learning.\u00a0 At the heart, at the initiation and impetus of learning, is curiosity.\u00a0 Every cell in our body is straining to learn things and experience new stuff.\u00a0 Curiosity is the engine of life, and a life happily and well-lived.<\/p>\n<p>Oh sure, we can kill curiosity in a being, through lack of care, or an environment of deprivation, or cruelty and mean-spirited behavior towards another being.\u00a0 I have seen people do this to their friends, children, their students, their co-workers, their dogs, and indeed to anyone and everyone near and around them.<\/p>\n<p>To kill curiosity in another being, whether, man, child, insect or animal, is the height of cruelty.\u00a0 It makes castration look like a slap on the wrist with a wooden pencil.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_309\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-309\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-309 alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/punishment-1.jpg\" alt=\"Punishment\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/punishment-1.jpg 300w, https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/punishment-1-150x84.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-309\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Let The Universe Do The Punishing. \u00a0The Man Who Punishes Curiosity \u00a0&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;..is Not a Man<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Chico is, was, and always will be the precise opposite of this.\u00a0 His very presence \u2013 calm, amused, self-possessed and compassionate \u2013 encourages the first little impulse towards new experience, the initiation of what he calls \u201cdaring to be here.\u201d\u00a0 \u201cYou have to dare to be right here, right now, and then your curiosity will blossom in fractions of a second, like a lovely hibiscus or a bunchberry dogwood,\u201d which Chico has told me is probably the fastest plant on earth.\u00a0 Once you\u2019re curious, there\u2019s no end of learning possible.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_314\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-314\" style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-314\" src=\"https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/bunchberry-dogwood-1.jpg\" alt=\"Bunchberry Dogwood\" width=\"360\" height=\"270\" srcset=\"https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/bunchberry-dogwood-1.jpg 259w, https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/bunchberry-dogwood-1-150x112.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 360px) 100vw, 360px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-314\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bunchberry Dogwood &#8211; One of the word&#8217;s fastest growing plants<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I asked Chico one evening, \u201cI know we have many things to learn.\u00a0 How are we going to learn to teleport?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a fair question,\u201d he said after a brief pause, \u201ca fair question, a good question, and both more difficult, and far far simpler, than you can ever imagine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat is required, Chico?\u201d I asked, tremulously inquisitive and also worried at the same time.\u00a0 \u201cWhat do I have to be, what do I have to become, what must I be thinking?\u201d\u00a0 My voice, the internal voice I use to speak with Chico, was careful, worried and somehow shaky.\u00a0 Of course, he could hear it, feel it; and chico-like, he responded in a kindly way.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo not worry, my dear friend. I was sent here by the wisest and most generous of all the beings of Narsica \u2013 the true and deep servants of the Universal Brain \u2013 to teach you and your friends, your family, many things.\u00a0 I would not have been sent if the mission was thought to be impossible.\u00a0 Among the various missions I was told to accomplish, I am charged &#8211; \u00a0indeed, I am required &#8211; \u00a0to teach you to teleport.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He looked at me both seriously and cheerfully, in a way, almost mischievously.\u00a0 \u201cI didn\u2019t travel 24 kilo parsecs to fail in my mission,\u201d he intoned, with a nearly aqueous mixture of humor, scolding and compassionate delight.\u00a0 This was the determined Chico, the Chico-on-a-mission, the Chico who is the immovable Rock of Ages.\u00a0 And I always found myself strong and confident in its clefts and crannies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow far is 24 kilo parsecs, Chico?\u201d I asked.\u00a0 He looked at me with a Puckish, ever-so-clever smile, and asked, \u201cDon\u2019t you remember you freshman astronomy class?\u00a0 A parsec is about three and a quarter light years.\u00a0 So, a kilo parsec is 3250 light years.\u00a0 Since our galaxy \u2013 your galaxy too, by the way (he chuckled) \u2013 is about 100,000 light years across, or some 30 kilo parsecs, and since your solar system is in the Sagittarius arm of the galaxy, about 24 kilo parsecs from Narsica, if I were traveling at the speed of light it\u2019d take 80,000 light years for me to get here.\u00a0 Even immortals don\u2019t have time like that for traveling! So we have to fold space and reduce travel time to\u2026well\u2026a few minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_318\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-318\" style=\"width: 508px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-318 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/spiral-galaxy-1.jpg\" alt=\"Spiral Galaxy\" width=\"508\" height=\"391\" srcset=\"https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/spiral-galaxy-1.jpg 256w, https:\/\/chicothemagicdog.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/spiral-galaxy-1-150x115.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 508px) 100vw, 508px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-318\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Our Own Milky Way &#8211; View from Alpha Centauri<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I was nearly but not quite lost in the discussion.\u00a0 Chico was right: I had taken freshman astronomy (I didn\u2019t even stop to think about how Chico knew about that!), and loved it, but never really did terribly well in the class\u2026I spent too much time dreaming about how I was going to live on another planet or wander around the galaxy on a light-beam.\u00a0 That dream, I realized, was coming true.\u00a0 I was going to learn how to travel faster, much faster, than the speed of light.\u00a0 I suspected it wasn\u2019t even travel at all, in the same sense of \u201cmoving from place to place.\u201d I was excited, and yet terrified.\u00a0 It was all so unknown, so far from my regular life.<\/p>\n<p>Chico read my mind. \u00a0It happened frequently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt isn\u2019t all that remote from your experiences,\u201d he counseled.\u00a0 \u201cFor example, do you believe in the transmigration of souls? If we think, we will struggle; if we struggle, we will dream of it; and if we dream, we shall find the remnants of earlier lives and timeless threads of being in our heart of hearts, that fraction of our being in which God has set Eternity, an inviolable bastion of radiating faith. The attainment of its realization demonstrates the transmigration of souls. It also suggests that we can travel vast distances in a second of time, transforming distance into leaps of faith and thought, and moving from place to place throughout the Universe, semi-corporeal and not-quite formed, as was Christ before His final ascension.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I was bowled over.\u00a0 There was more \u201cstuff\u201d in this brief Chico-statement than ever I\u2019d heard him say all at once\u2026huge, cosmic-sized concepts and ideas, phrase by phrase, like a giant walking through a forest in seven-league boots!\u00a0 I stared at him, trying to digest it all, failing to remember all the key logical connectors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t quite yet get it all, Chico, but how do I start to learn about the technique of it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell,\u201d he started, \u201cyou might remember that after our encounter with the Warrg, I mentioned that we\u2019d have to accelerate your training.\u00a0 I just gave you a high-level overview.\u00a0 Now we can begin with the details.\u00a0 There are both spiritual and physiological hurdles, learning-elements that we will all do together. My thought is to teach you and Licker together.\u00a0 His intellectual capacity is vast; he has no idea about how smart he really is.\u00a0 He\u2019s\u2026brilliant, really, and has a huge memory and training capacity.
